Heritage Propane started with the formation of its privately-owned predecessor in 1989. In 1996, that company was a part of the initial public offering of Heritage Propane Partners, L.P., a publicly traded limited partnership. In 2004 Heritage Propane merged its operations with Energy Transfer and today, Heritage Propane is one of the integral operating subsidiaries of Energy Transfer Partners, L.P. whose common units are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ETP.
Energy Transfer’s combined operations now include intrastate natural gas gathering and transportation pipelines, natural gas treating and processing assets located in Texas and Louisiana, and three natural gas storage facilities located in Texas. In addition, Energy Transfer has interstate pipeline assets in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
Currently, Heritage Propane is one of the three largest retail marketers of propane in the United States, serving more than one million customers from over 440 customer service locations in 41 states, extending from coast to coast, with concentration in the western, upper Midwestern, northeastern, and southeastern regions of the United States. Heritage Propane has grown through its acquisition and consolidation of quality propane companies in those 41 states. Since its inception, Heritage has completed more than 110 acquisitions, including the August 2000 U.S. Propane Transaction which combined five of the nations’ 50 largest retail propane operations. Volumes of propane sold to retail customers have increased steadily reaching 429 million gallons for the fiscal year ended August 2006.
